Consultant Spotlight - June 2025

Anusha Acharya, PhD

Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine

How long have you been with miLEAD?

A little over a year.

What is the focus of your research?

My research currently focuses on drug development for relapsed and refractory Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and targeting inflammation in AML and the pre-leukemic stage.

What are your current career goals?

My experience at miLEAD has reinforced my passion for the business side of science. Working on real-world projects, engaging with clients, and analyzing market landscapes gave me a firsthand look at the impact strategic thinking can have in life sciences. This experience has confirmed my desire to formally transition into life science consulting, where I can bridge my scientific background with business-driven decision making.

What roles have you played on projects?

So far, I have been a consultant on 2 projects.

What led you to seek out miLEAD?

I always knew I wanted to move into the industry after my PhD, but towards the end of it, I realized that while I value and enjoy research, I was increasingly drawn to the business and management side of the life sciences. I understood that interest alone wasn’t enough—I needed to develop the right skill set. That’s when I actively began seeking out opportunities to gain hands-on experience and came across miLEAD Consulting. Fortunately, they were accepting applications beyond the University of Michigan, which allowed me to join and contribute meaningfully while building essential consulting skills.

Since joining miLEAD, what skills have you been able to develop?

Through my experience on both projects, I’ve developed strong skills in time management, teamwork, and collaboration. One key learning has been understanding how communication differs between scientific and consulting environments. I’ve learned to distill data into clear, concise insights tailored to the client's needs—an essential skill in consulting.

What has been one of your most rewarding experiences thus far working with miLEAD?

In our most recent project at miLEAD, our team identified over 30 potential clients nationwide through a systematic prospecting process. We also analyzed past client feedback to uncover actionable insights for improving client experience and retention. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to expanding miLEAD’s client base while studying and adapting acquisition and retention strategies used by leading consulting firms. Learning the business development skill was very valuable.
