Our Story

miLEAD is a nonprofit organization built and run by a diverse group of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at the University of Michigan. We were founded in 2013 by a group of six postdoctoral fellows as an effort to provide practical experience to motivated graduate students and postdocs and to create collaborations with the business community. We strive to provide a lens into non-academic career paths for students, which we achieve through capitalizing on the research and analysis skills of Michigan graduate students and postdocs and applying them to complex business problems. Through our combined expertise, we are able to devise innovative solutions. Since its founding, miLEAD has grown to over 50 active consultants and 70 alumni.

Since its inception, miLEAD has completed over 40 projects, and our project load continues to expand rapidly. We have worked with companies both within our local Ann Arbor community and across the United States to forge a collaboration between our members and industry. miLEAD has engaged companies from emerging start-ups to established corporations, and has provided a wide array of deliverables to meet each project’s specific needs. We pride ourselves on the data-driven, proven results we are able to deliver to our partners, and our success is emanated in the number of clients who return to us project after project.

Our Mission

miLEAD was founded upon the driving principles of i) developing its members by giving them the tools and experiences necessary to succeed in a non-academic setting, ii) promoting leadership, team work, and business skills amongst its members, and iii) supporting and promoting the growth of local business by fostering closer collaboration between businesses and its members. To this day, miLEAD continues to thrive as a nonprofit organization by not only developing our members into highly successful workers, but by providing proven results to local and national businesses.

miLEAD offers unique and specialized opportunities to our members in order to allow them to obtain a first-hand view into non-academic careers. Below are just some of the opportunities our members can take advantage of to further their own professional development.

OPPORTUNITIES

Case Studies miLEAD members routinely compete in regional case study competitions to take on real-world, complex issues in business. miLEAD teams have been remarkably successful at these competitions, taking home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes.
